Jonathan Taylor has agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $44 million with the Indianapolis Colts, according to ESPN.
The deal which runs through the 2028 NFL season, has a maximum value of $47 million and includes $39 million guaranteed making it the third-largest contract for a running back in league history, ESPN reported.
Taylor’s extension comes just days after Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson signed a record-breaking new deal, as the market for elite running backs continues to rise.
Before news of the agreement emerged, Taylor had suggested Robinson’s contract could help negotiations with Indianapolis.
“Hopefully. I’ve got to go talk to my agent. I need to go talk to him and see where things are at,” Taylor said.
“I’ve been trying to just focus on getting better, but I have faith. I’m going to tap in and check in with him now that you guys broke the news to me.”
The 27-year-old has re-established himself as one of the NFL’s top running backs after injury-hit campaigns in 2022 and 2023.
Last season, he led the league with 323 rushing attempts and 18 rushing touchdowns while recording 1,585 rushing yards. Taylor is the second-leading rusher in Colts franchise history with 7,598 rushing yards, behind Hall of Famer Edgerrin James.
